One of the most ambitious expeditions ever to tag great white sharks set sail on July 30 off Cape Cod, Mass. The researchers hope to tag as many as 20 of the enormous sharks, about which very little is known.

Brussels, Belgium, 30th July 2013—A new TRAFFIC study examines how implementation of trade controls through CITES regulations can ensure that seven species of sharks and manta rays are only sourced sustainably and legally before entering international trade.

Germany, USA and Ecuador outlined on Friday their progress towards protecting sharks, and meeting their international obligations under the CMS Sharks MOU. They were speaking at an event organized by the CMS Secretariat to promote the only global instrument on the conservation of migratory sharks and held in the margins of CITES COP16 on 8 March, 2013 in Bangkok.
